Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth Set for Latest Heads-Up Showdown

Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth, two poker legends, are set for a new heads-up challenge. This matchup could be the ultimate showdown to end all heads-up challenges, or at least usher in a new era.

Negreanu recently lost a heads-up match to Doug Polk, dropping a whopping $1.2 million. Hellmuth criticized Negreanu's performance on the PokerGO show No Gamble, No Future, saying "I was disappointed in Daniel's play." Hellmuth had even bet on Negreanu before his match against Polk, but believed Negreanu could have won with a different strategy.

"I bet on Daniel's talent," Hellmuth said. "I think if Daniel tried to use pure GTO or higher-level GTO against Polk, Polk is a powerhouse, and Daniel was fighting fire with fire. I think Daniel should have fought with his own style."

Negreanu fired back on Twitter: "You said you watched 'zero' matches but have strong opinions on play. I'm willing to play you heads-up at any stakes you're comfortable with, live or online, as many hands as you want. Wanna play, big boy?"

In a follow-up interview, Negreanu questioned whether Hellmuth would actually accept: "Honestly, I think he's scared. I know he's afraid. He knows he'll look terrible."

According to CardPlayer Online, sportsbook BetOnline has listed Negreanu as a -250 favorite. However, Hellmuth is no pushover—last year he defeated Antonio Esfandiari in three high-stakes heads-up matches on PokerGO.

Poker players will undoubtedly bet on this event, and Mike McDonald's Poker Shares site has already opened wagering. Fans are also betting on the Bill Perkins vs. Landon Tice matchup, with Perkins at 2.40 odds to lose less than $720,000 or win, and Tice at 1.61 odds to win more than $720,000.

This showdown will most likely take place on PokerGO, and poker enthusiasts are eagerly waiting.
