WSOP Introduces Dinner Breaks in Response to Player Feedback
WSOP announces dinner breaks in select events, responding to long-standing player feedback. The new policy aims to improve the tournament experience by avoiding marathon sessions without breaks.
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has recently announced the official introduction of dinner breaks for events in 2026 and beyond, a significant adjustment driven by years of player feedback.
According to official information, the dinner break will apply to all Main Events and certain high buy-in tournaments, typically scheduled after approximately 5-6 hours of play and lasting about 60-75 minutes. During this time, players can leave the table to eat, rest, or briefly relax without worrying about strategic disadvantages caused by game interruptions.
In the past, WSOP's marathon schedules often forced players to compete for more than 12 consecutive hours, subsisting only on snacks or fast food, which generated numerous complaints. Especially during the late stages of the Main Event, the prolonged state of tension placed a severe test on players' stamina and concentration. With the introduction of dinner breaks, players can regain their energy, and it also helps improve tournament fairness by preventing decision-making errors due to physiological needs.
A WSOP tournament director stated: "We always listen to players' experience feedback. The dinner break is an optimization plan finalized after years of discussion. It not only enhances the playing experience but also aligns with the humanizing trend of modern poker tournaments."
Currently, other major poker tours such as the European Poker Tour (EPT) and World Poker Tour (WPT) have long incorporated dinner breaks into their schedules. WSOP's adoption marks a step forward for traditional events in becoming more flexible and player-friendly.
Industry analysts believe this move may attract more amateur players, as they typically find it harder to adapt to uninterrupted long sessions. Meanwhile, professional players have generally welcomed the change, viewing it as basic respect for player health.
