Carl Copeland

Carl Copeland, full name Carl Daniel Copeland, was born on November 13, 1957, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated from The Hill School in Pottstown and later worked as a Bryn Mawr volunteer fireman. He also enjoyed rugby as both a player and referee. Beyond poker, he collected board games and loved playing Texas Hold'em tournaments.

Copeland's recorded tournament results come from the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit at Harrah's Philadelphia. In April 2014, he cashed twice:

• Event #12: Turbo No-Limit Hold'em – 3rd place out of 93 entries, earning $3,683.
• Event #2: No-Limit Hold'em Re-Entry – 36th place out of 331 entries, earning $513.

His total live tournament earnings are $4,196, with one final table and two cashes overall according to WSOP.com records.

At the Parx Big Stax XXXI event in September 2019, Copeland played a key hand during Day 1a of the $300 buy-in Big Stax 300 tournament. With blinds at 75,000/150,000, he called a raise from Anthony Tonzelli and another player. On a flop of K♠ 9♣ 3♥, Copeland bet 3,000 and was called by both opponents. After a 10♦ turn, he bet 5,000, forcing Tonzelli to fold, but the big blind called. The river brought a 2♠, and Copeland jammed for 15,300. His opponent called with K♥ Q♠, but Copeland held A♦ K♦ for a better kicker, doubling his stack to 143,000.

Carl Copeland passed away on June 9, 2023, at age 65. He is remembered by his twin brother Edward and sister Cristina. His love for poker tournaments and board games left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
