Diego Caserio is an Italian poker player who discovered poker in 2011 and went on to win the Italian Series of Poker in 2017. After a devastating motorcycle accident in 2023 that cost him his left leg, he is now preparing to live out his dream of playing the WSOP Main Event in 2025.

Career earnings: $ 30,244

Early Life and Introduction to Poker

Diego Caserio was born in Varese, Italy, and has lived in Trieste for over 30 years. He discovered poker in 2011 and was immediately drawn to the competition. Away from the tables, Caserio is an avid motorcyclist who has ridden a Harley Davidson across the United States twice and made 16 trips on a Harley in the states. He also enjoys boxing, weightlifting, and spending time with his family.

2017 Italian Series of Poker Victory

In 2017, Caserio achieved a notable milestone by taking first place at the Italian Series of Poker, a significant win in his home country.

The 2023 Motorcycle Accident

On March 22, 2023, while riding his Harley Davidson in downtown Trieste, Caserio was struck by a drunk driver who had skidded on a curb. He woke up five days later in the hospital to discover that his left leg had been amputated. He also suffered a broken right knee and a fractured left hip. The recovery was grueling, marked by phantom limb pain, depression, and months of hospitalization. His wife Giada and their young daughter Désirée were a constant source of strength, and his close friend Fausto Pizzoni called him three times a day to offer support.

Poker Success and WSOP Dream

Despite the tragic accident, Caserio continued to play poker. In 2024, he led the chip count on Day 1A of the ReMida Deep event at Casino Perla in Nova Gorica, stacking 490,000 chips. He ranks third in the circuit's player of the year standings. His biggest goal, however, is to play the WSOP Main Event for the first time in 2025. Caserio has described this dream as a light during his darkest days, and he plans to fulfill it at the 2025 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

Personal Life

Caserio is married to Giada, and the couple has a daughter named Désirée. He maintains an active lifestyle despite his amputation, continuing to box, lift weights, and ride motorcycles. He is also known for his close-knit circle of friends, including Fausto Pizzoni, Giorgio Silvestrin, and Diego Testa, who supported him throughout his recovery.
