Hugo Almeida

Hugo Almeida, also known by his online alias "Alive" or "Aliv3," is a Portuguese poker professional. Born around 1980 (as he was 31 in 2011), he holds a degree in Chemical Engineering and turned professional in poker approximately two years prior to 2011. His early live tournament success came in the ParadisePoker Tour (PPT) circuit.

In 2010, Almeida won a €1,100 package to the PPT London stop through the "Achas que sabes Grindar?" promotion on Paradise Poker. His best live result at the time was a runner-up finish in the PPT Vilamoura event (€550 buy-in, 179 players), where he earned €20,613 after losing heads-up to Sérgio "Vgeta31" Almeida.

In June 2011, Almeida won the Unibet Bracelet Crusader promotion, securing a package to play 10 events at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas. The package included entries into WSOP events #13, #15, #17, #18, #20, #22, #26, #31, #32, and #34.

During the PPT Prague event, Almeida suffered a brutal bad beat. Holding QQ, he got all-in on a flop of 7♣7♦6♣ against an opponent who called with K♣9♣. The turn brought the 7♠, seemingly safe for Almeida, but the river was the 7♥, giving his opponent a higher kicker to win the pot. Almeida was eliminated from the tournament.

In 2012, news emerged that members of the Portuguese national football team, including a player named Hugo Almeida (likely a different person, a footballer), were playing poker during their Euro 2012 training camp. According to Correio da Manhã, this Hugo Almeida was considered the "bluff master" among the squad, though the article may refer to the footballer rather than the poker pro.
