Jake Quinsee

Jake Quinsee, from Denby Dale, Huddersfield, began his card-playing career with Yu-Gi-Oh! at age 14, quickly rising to national prominence. In 2011, he won the UK National Championship, a feat that marked him as one of Britain's top players. He later took a break from Yu-Gi-Oh! to focus on poker, where he found success in both cash games and tournaments.

In March 2017, Quinsee won the £100,000 guaranteed DTD200 8-Max event at Dusk Till Dawn (DTD) in Nottingham. Turning a £220 buy-in into £20,550, he defeated a tough final table that included Mohammed Ifzail (runner-up) and Asif Ilyas (third place). The victory was widely reported by PokerNews and solidified his reputation in the UK poker scene.

Earlier, in early 2014, Quinsee won the poker league at Grosvenor Casino Huddersfield, which attracted over 550 participants. His prize was a week-long trip to Las Vegas for himself and a friend, including £500 spending money and all expenses paid. He chose to travel in June or July, hoping to watch the World Series of Poker.

Despite his poker success, Quinsee never left Yu-Gi-Oh! behind. In 2019, he secured a spot at the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship in Berlin, the only British competitor that year. He described the pressure as greater than any poker tournament, including the WSOP Main Event. He earned his invitation by reaching the semifinals of the European Championships, after a near-miss at UK nationals where he finished in the top eight.

Quinsee is regarded as a solid, fundamentals-based cash game player who excels in deep-stack situations. In Yu-Gi-Oh!, he is known for his strategic depth and competitive tenacity. His ability to transition between two complex card games demonstrates his adaptability and focus.
