Martin Jarvis

Matthew Jarvis was born in Richmond, British Columbia, and later resided in Surrey, BC. He is a self-taught poker player who learned the game by playing with friends and reading poker books. Jarvis attended university pursuing a degree in business, though his poker success led him to put his education on hold.

In 2010, Jarvis opted to skip most preliminary WSOP events, instead playing several no-limit hold'em tournaments at the Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza III, where he cashed three times. His defining moment came at the 7,319-player 2010 WSOP Main Event, where he entered the final table (the November Nine) fifth in chips. He finished 8th, earning $1,045,743 after being eliminated by Michael Mizrachi in a dramatic hand: Jarvis held 9♣9♥ and flopped a full house, but Mizrachi rivered a higher full house. The hand also marked the end of the "November Nine bubble," as Jarvis eliminated Brandon Steven with pocket queens to secure his final table spot.

At the 2011 WSOP, Jarvis won his first career bracelet in Event #40: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em Six-Handed, defeating a field of 732 players for $808,538. This made him the third November Nine player after Eric Buchman and Phil Ivey to win a bracelet the following year. In 2014, he captured the WPT Montreal main event, earning $113,222. He also topped the 2010 Canadian Open Poker Championship Heads-Up event for CA$100,000.

Playing under the screen name "Jarfish" on various platforms, Jarvis achieved numerous five-figure online scores. His career-high online cash came in July 2011 when he won the Absolute Poker UBOC $750K GTD High Roller for $193,500.

Jarvis continued to find success in live tournaments. In December 2023, he won the C$1,650 Pure Poker Tour Tournament of Champions for $51,800. He also cashed in multiple WSOP events in 2016-2017, including the $1,500 Millionaire Maker and the $365 Giant.

Matthew Jarvis is the son of Norm Jarvis, a professional golfer who played on the Champions Tour. Outside of poker, Jarvis has worked in sales and operations, serving as Country Manager Canada for WPT online and co-founding the social casino app Cash Live. He is also an accomplished pickleball player.

With over $2.4 million in recorded live earnings, one WSOP bracelet, and a WPT title, Matthew Jarvis is recognized as a skilled all-around player who made his mark during the peak of the poker boom. His November Nine run and subsequent bracelet victory solidify his place in Canadian poker history.
