Tuan Le
United Kingdom
Tuan Le is a Vietnamese-American professional poker player from Los Angeles, known for his mathematical approach and calm demeanor. He has won three World Poker Tour titles, including the Season 3 Championship, and made history with back-to-back WSOP $10,000 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball championships in 2014 and 2015.
Early Life and Background
Tuan Le was born on February 15, 1978, in Paris, France, to Vietnamese parents. He was raised in Kansas City, Missouri, and by middle school moved to Los Angeles, California, where he attended John Burroughs Junior High. Le began college but never finished, eventually turning to poker full-time.
Career Highlights
Le first gained attention in 2004 when he won the World Poker Finals, a WPT event, earning $1.57 million. He followed up by winning the WPT Season 3 Championship in 2005 for over $2.8 million. In 2006, he won the WPT Battle of Champions III, defeating Eli Elezra heads-up.
At the World Series of Poker, Le achieved a historic feat by winning the $10,000 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball Championship in both 2014 and 2015 – the first player to win back-to-back $10,000 buy-in WSOP events outside the Main Event.
Playing Style
Le is known as “The Math Man” for his analytical, odds-based approach. He credits Barry Greenstein’s book Ace on the River for shaping his game. Despite his tournament success, Le often describes himself as a cash-game player who entered tournaments almost reluctantly. He once tried to cash out his WPT Championship seat for $25,000 but was forced to play.
Personal Life
Le lives in Los Angeles with his family. He has said his wife dislikes poker, so he mostly plays for fun. He claims he only knows how to play Texas Hold’em, despite winning two WSOP bracelets in a lowball variant. His calm, disciplined style has earned him the nickname “Poker Robot,” though he dislikes it.
Legacy
With over $5.5 million in live tournament earnings, Le remains a respected figure in poker. His back-to-back WSOP titles and multiple WPT victories cement his reputation as a versatile and skilled player.
