20BB偷盲(20bb Steal)

20bb Steal

When the stack depth is about 20 big blinds, the action of raising to try to win the blinds and antes.

Meaning

A 20BB steal refers to a raise from late position (such as the button or small blind) when a player has around 20 big blinds, aiming to force the blinds to fold and win the blinds and antes immediately.

Principle

With a short stack (around 20BB), post-flop playability is limited, so winning the pot pre-flop is efficient. 20BB is a critical stack depth: with deeper stacks (e.g., 50BB+), opponents may call or re-raise with more hands; with shallower stacks (e.g., less than 10BB), all-in is usually a better option. At 20BB, raising to 2-2.5BB applies pressure without committing too much of the stack or creating unfavorable pot odds.

Execution Key Points

  • Position: Usually from the button, small blind, or cutoff, as these positions allow gathering opponent information and having last action.
  • Hand Range: Typical steal hands include A-2s, K-9s, Q-10s, small pairs (e.g., 44-88), and medium suited connectors (e.g., 78s). Adjust based on opponents: widen against tight players, tighten against loose ones.
  • Frequency: Recommend stealing from the button with about 50% of hands, but balance to avoid being frequently exploited.
  • Responding to Re-raise: If re-raised, with 20BB you typically must either go all-in or fold. Therefore, evaluate opponents' re-raising tendencies when stealing.

Adjustment Factors

  • Ante: With antes, the pot is larger, increasing the profitability of steals, so you can widen your stealing range.
  • Opponent Type: If the blinds have a high fold-to-steal rate (e.g., >70%), steal frequently; otherwise, reduce.
  • Stack Distribution: If the blinds are also short (e.g., 10BB), they may call or shove with a wider range, so proceed cautiously.

Risks and Rewards

20BB stealing is an important way to accumulate chips in tournaments, but overuse can lead to counter-strategies from opponents. Adjust flexibly based on table dynamics to avoid becoming a predictable aggressive player.
