75bb Push Fold
75bb Push Fold
Term: 75bb Push-Fold Strategy A simplified game theory strategy where, at an effective stack depth of approximately 75 big blinds, the only actions considered are all-in or fold.
Overview
75bb Push Fold is an extremely simplified poker strategy where a player, with an effective stack of 75 big blinds, abandons all non-all-in raises or calls, choosing only between "all-in" and "fold". This stack depth is far deeper than the typical short-stack push-fold range (usually ≤20bb), making it extremely rare in actual play. It is mostly seen in theoretical discussions or as an exploitative adjustment against specific opponents.
Principles and Applicable Scenarios
- Principle: Push-fold strategies are usually used when stacks are very short to reduce post-flop decision complexity and minimize technical disadvantages. At 75bb, there is still a huge amount of playable space post-flop, and forcing a push-fold strategy would result in a massive loss of expected value. Generally, push-fold is only mathematically close to optimal when stacks are below 20bb. At 75bb, opponents can easily exploit it (e.g., by calling with a wide range or re-raising).
- Applicable Scenarios:
- At a table with many deep stacks where the player is extremely tight, and an all-in can immediately take down the pot.
- Opponents have a severely over-folded calling range and are very difficult to play against post-flop.
- As an occasional balancing play (at very low frequency).
- Non-applicable Scenarios: In regular cash games or mid-tournament stages, with 75bb the focus should be on post-flop skills rather than push-fold.
Advantages and Disadvantages
- Advantages:
- Eliminates post-flop decision errors, suitable for players with lower skill levels.
- Strong deterrence against tight-weak opponents.
- Disadvantages:
Differences from Standard Push-Fold Strategy
Standard push-fold strategy guides (e.g., SNG strategy charts) typically only apply to stack depths ≤20bb. The 75bb push-fold is an extreme assumption and does not appear in actual GTO solutions. Understanding this term helps players recognize the boundaries of strategy and avoid mistakenly using all-in/fold thinking when deep-stacked.
