大盲位翻牌前加注-弃牌单调策略(BB Preflop Raise-Fold Monotone)

A monotone strategy where the big blind, when facing a preflop raise, only 3-bets with a certain range and folds to a 4-bet, without mixing calls or 4-bet counterattacks.

Concept

BB Preflop Raise-Fold Monotone is a preflop poker strategy typically used from the Big Blind (BB) against a steal raise from the Small Blind (SB) or Button (BTN). The core of this strategy is that the Big Blind only takes one action line: when the opponent raises, the Big Blind 3-bets with a specific range; if the opponent then 4-bets, the Big Blind folds without re-raising. This strategy does not include calling or 5-bet all-in options, hence the term "monotone" (meaning a single action).

Application Scenarios

This strategy is often used against aggressive but wide-ranging stealers, especially in blind-on-blind battles. Its advantage lies in simplifying decisions, avoiding complex postflop situations, and using the 3-bet to either win the pot outright or force the opponent to fold. The disadvantage is that it becomes too predictable, allowing opponents to easily adjust, e.g., by 4-betting with a wider range to exploit it.

Note

In actual gameplay, a pure monotone strategy is rare; players typically mix calls, 3-bets, or 4-bets to balance their range. However, as a learning foundation, this concept helps to understand the basic defensive approach from the Big Blind.

Related Adjustments

  • If the opponent 4-bets frequently, consider reducing the 3-bet range or introducing 5-bet all-ins.
  • If the opponent folds too often, expand the 3-bet range.
  • Preflop position, stack depth, and opponent tendencies all affect the effectiveness of this strategy.
