BTN 150bb Resteal

BTN 150bb Resteal

Term: Button Deep Stack Resteal BTN 150bb Resteal A play where a player on the button, with a stack depth of approximately 150 big blinds, re-raises against a steal attempt from either the cutoff CO or an earlier position player.

Concept

BTN 150bb Resteal refers to a technique where a player on the button (BTN), with an effective stack depth of approximately 150 big blinds (bb), re-raises (3-bets) against a blind steal raise from the dealer or an earlier position player. This term is common in deep-stack cash games or deep-stack stages of tournaments.

Strategy Points

  • Effective Stack Depth: 150bb is considered deep stack, so the resteal raise size and range need adjustment. Typically, re-raise to about 20-25bb to give opponents appropriate fold equity and implied odds.
  • Range Selection: The button resteal range should include strong hands (e.g., TT+, AQ+) as well as some exploitative hands (e.g., Axs, suited connectors), leveraging position and deep-stack implied odds.
  • Opponent Tendencies: Opponents who frequently steal blinds are more susceptible to resteals; against conservative players, reduce frequency.
  • Post-Flop Play: If called, the pot is often large on the flop. Choose bets or checks carefully, using positional advantage to control the pot.

Notes

  • Under deep stacks, if faced with a 4-bet after a resteal, be prepared with a reasonable 5-bet range or fold to avoid being trapped in a large pot disadvantage.
  • Avoid overusing this move to prevent opponents from adjusting and countering it.
  • When the actual stack depth is close to 150bb, consider table dynamics and opponent image; do not mechanically execute.
