庄位翻牌前延迟持续下注干燥牌面(BTN Preflop Delayed C-Bet Dry)
A betting strategy where the player who raised preflop from the button checks on a dry flop and then bets on the turn.
Strategy Principle
This strategy refers to a player who raised preflop from the Button (BTN) choosing to check on the flop and then bet on the turn. The key prerequisite is that the flop is dry, meaning the board lacks obvious straight or flush draw possibilities (e.g., a K-7-2 rainbow flop). The purpose of a delayed c-bet is to make it difficult for opponents to gauge one's hand strength, while using the flop check to lure opponents into making mistakes on the turn or river.
Characteristics of a Dry Board
A dry board typically has scattered ranks and uncoordinated suits, such as an A-9-2 rainbow or Q-5-3 rainbow. Such boards are unlikely to generate draws. Therefore, when the preflop raiser checks the flop and then bets the turn, the bet appears stronger, suggesting that the player likely holds at least top pair or that the turn has improved their hand.
Difference from Wet Boards
On wet boards (e.g., boards with straight or flush draws), the delayed c-bet is less effective because opponents are more likely to hold draws, and a turn bet may not apply sufficient pressure. Dry boards are more suitable because opponents have fewer draws and are more likely to fold in the face of a turn bet.
Applicable Scenarios
- The preflop raiser has a positional advantage (e.g., on the Button).
- After checking the flop, the turn allows the player to represent a stronger made hand.
- The opponent's range is wide, and they tend to call once on the flop but fold to a turn bet.
Pros and Cons
- Pros: Balances the frequency of flop c-bets, preventing opponents from easily exploiting the player; can take advantage of opponents' tendency to interpret a flop check as a sign of weakness.
- Cons: If the turn bet is called, the player may face difficulties on the river; less effective against opponents who like to float.
Typical Example
Assume the Button player raises preflop and the Big Blind calls. The flop comes K♠ 7♣ 2♦ (dry board). The Button player checks. The turn is 9♥, and the Button bets about 2/3 of the pot. This bet represents that the Button may hold top pair or that the turn hit a straight draw (though a straight draw is unlikely on a dry board, so it's more likely representing a made hand).
