庄位河牌超池下注-湿润牌面(BTN River Overbet Wet)

The player on the button, on the river, when the board is wet and they have a range advantage, makes a bet larger than the pot size, aiming to maximize value or force opponents into mistakes.

Definition

BTN River Overbet Wet is an advanced poker strategy where the Button (BTN) makes a bet larger than the pot (typically 120%-200% of the pot) on the river against a wet board texture. This strategy is frequently employed by the preflop raiser (BTN) who has position and has established a range advantage on the flop and turn. A wet board is one with straight or flush draw possibilities, featuring connected cards such as two-tone or straight-coordinated boards.

Purpose

  • Maximize Value: When BTN holds the nuts or a strong hand (e.g., top pair plus a made draw), an overbet can extract more chips from weaker made hands or drawing hands.
  • Polarize Range: BTN’s checking range on a wet board is typically weak, but a continuous betting line followed by a river overbet represents either a very strong hand or a pure bluff, forcing opponents into difficult decisions.
  • Force Folds: Opponents’ medium-strength made hands (e.g., one pair) are often unprofitable to call against an overbet, especially if they fear BTN holds a strong hand.

Applicability

  • Preflop Range Advantage: BTN’s preflop raising range is wider than the blinds’, and after continued betting postflop, the range contains a mix of strong and non-strong hands.
  • Board Texture: Wet boards such as 6-7-8 two-tone, or T-J-Q rainbow where the turn completes a straight or flush.
  • Opponent Tendencies: Effective against opponents who rarely fold or overfold; increase bluff frequency against frequent folders, and value-bet more against calling stations.

Precautions

  • Overusing the strategy leads opponents to adjust, perceiving BTN’s overbet range as unpolarized.
  • Balance between value bets and bluffs: recommended ratio of value to bluff is 2:1 to 1:1 (depends on opponent).
  • Avoid using on dry boards, as the overbet has reduced value and opponents can fold more easily.

Typical Example

Suppose BTN holds A♥K♥, flop is Q♥J♥2♣, turn is 8♥, river is 4♦. The board is wet (straight draws and flush possible). On the river, BTN overbets (pot is 100, bet is 150), representing the nut flush or straight, forcing opponents with a hand like AJ to fold.
