CO 150bb Steal
CO 150bb Steal
Term: CO 150bb Steal When the stack depth is approximately 150 big blinds, a player in the CO position raises to steal the blinds and dead money in the pot.
Position Advantage and Chip Depth
The CO (Cut-off, the first position to the right of the button) is one of the most valuable positions for stealing blinds preflop. Since the button has yet to act, the CO player can raise relatively loosely, using positional advantage to control the pot postflop. When the chip depth reaches approximately 150 big blinds (bb), players' hand ranges are narrower compared to deeper stacks, and opponents' defending ranges also adjust.
Stealing Strategy
At a depth of 150bb, the standard raise sizing for a CO steal is typically 3bb, but it can be adjusted based on opponents. In terms of frequency, the CO may consider raising with about 40%-50% of hands, but this should be tailored to table dynamics. If the blind players defend tightly, the stealing frequency can be increased; if opponents frequently 3-bet, stealing should be reduced and the value range strengthened.
Risk Assessment
At 150bb, decisions about calling or 4-betting after being 3-bet become more complex, as deep stacks imply potentially large pots. When stealing from the CO, avoid over-stealing against aggressive loose blind players to prevent ending up in unfavorable postflop situations.
Example
Typical scenario: CO holds A♠7♠ with 150bb, and both blind players are relatively conservative. CO raises 3bb in an attempt to steal. If the blinds fold, the CO successfully wins a 1.5bb pot.
