Overview
CO Flop 5-Bet Dynamic is a non-standard but occasionally appearing term in deep poker strategy discussions, referring to the dynamic formed by a fifth raise (5-bet) initiated by the cutoff (CO) on the flop. Usually, 5-bet refers to the fifth preflop raise, but a 5-bet on the flop is extremely rare, occurring only in ultra-deep stacks or extremely aggressive confrontations.
Conditions
- Stack depth: Effective stacks are often above 200BB, because multiple raises quickly inflate the pot.
- Board structure: The flop is usually strongly connected (e.g., straight draws or flush draws), prompting players to continue aggression.
- Player tendencies: Both players are loose-aggressive and position-sensitive. The CO position, due to its post-flop advantage, may exploit this dynamic.
Strategic Significance
- Range polarization: The 5-bet range usually contains only nut hands or very strong draws to reduce the risk of being counter-exploited.
- Positional value: The CO has last action on the flop; after 5-betting, they can force opponents to make decisions out of position.
