CO Multiway Pot Flop Strategy
CO Multiway Pot Flop Strategy
CO Multiway Pot Flop Strategy Refers to the decision-making plan betting, checking, raising, etc. on the flop when in the Cut Off position facing a multiway pot.
Position and Situation
The cutoff (CO) is the position to the right of the button, with positional advantage second only to the button post-flop. A multiway pot refers to three or more players entering the pot pre-flop. In this scenario, the CO's relative positional advantage diminishes, as more players have position or potential draws.
Core Strategy
1. Range Tightening
- Post-flop ranges should remove some weaker hands or low-draw-value combos from the pre-flop raising range.
- Typical case: On wet flop structures (e.g., two-tone boards), the CO's continuation bet frequency in multiway pots should significantly decrease.
2. Bet Sizing Adjustments
- In multiway pots, bet sizing is typically larger than in heads-up pots (around two-thirds to three-quarters of the pot) to drive out weaker draws and establish pot control.
- Example: On a flop of Q♠9♥7♦, holding K♠Q♦ in a multiway pot, you can bet about 70% of the pot.
3. Check-Raise and Check-Fold
- When the flop texture has high correlation with the CO's range (e.g., holding top pair or better), prioritize betting.
- If the flop is low-correlation and the CO's range is weak, frequent check-folds are advisable to avoid complex multiway situations.
4. Positional Utilization and Protection
- Since the button (BTN) may still act after the CO, consider the possibility of the BTN squeezing or slow-playing.
- On dangerous flops (e.g., A♣J♦8♠ with multiple checks from earlier positions), the CO may opt to check to control the pot.
Typical Adjustments
- Wet boards (e.g., 8♠7♠5♣): Betting range should tighten to top pair or better, or strong draws; avoid continuation betting with weak top pairs or middle pairs.
- Dry boards (e.g., K♣5♦2♠): The CO can increase continuation bet frequency, as their high-end range advantage is clear.
Notes
- Bluffing frequency should be reduced in multiway pots, as opponents are more likely to hold made hands or draws.
- Adjust dynamically based on the pre-flop raising range and the flop board texture.
