关煞位河牌静态阻挡下注(CO River Block Bet Static)

When in the cutoff CO on the flop, a small-sized bet on the river aimed at cheaply preventing opponents from betting, while using card types improved on the river in one's own range to balance the range.

Applicable Scenarios

This strategy is typically used in heads-up or three-way pots when the CO player has made a continuation bet on the flop and checked the turn, and the river card favors the CO's range (e.g., completing a straight or flush). In this situation, the CO makes a small bet (approximately 1/4 to 1/3 pot) with the aim of preventing the opponent (usually the BTN or blind positions) from making a larger value bet or bluff, while also making it difficult for the opponent to exploit via raises.

Principles

  • Blocking Effect: The CO's thin value bet or bluff can block the opponent's larger bet at a smaller cost. Opponents holding marginal hands will often only call or fold, rarely raise, because the CO's betting range contains some strong hands.
  • Static Range: "Static" here refers to the CO's betting range being balanced and predetermined based on flop and turn actions, rather than dynamically adjusting to the river card. For example, the CO might bet all hands that complete a straight on the river, regardless of the opponent's specific range.
  • Balance: When using a static blocking bet, the CO mixes in some air hands (e.g., high cards that completely missed) as bluffs to ensure the betting range has an appropriate bluff frequency, preventing the opponent from easily exploiting it.

Example

  • Flop: K♠8♣3♦, Turn: 7♥, River: 6♠. CO hand: A♠9♠ (flush draw). After checking the turn, the river completes the flush. The CO can bet 1/3 pot, while also bluffing with hands like Q♥J♥ because they missed their draws. If the opponent holds KQ, they will likely just call.

Notes

This strategy is suitable for regular games where opponents are unlikely to raise. However, caution is needed against aggressive opponents, as they may recognize your small bet sizing and frequently raise.
