关煞位河牌彩虹面探查性下注(CO River Probe Bet Rainbow)
On the river with a rainbow flop three different suits, a small bet made by the cutoff position player aimed at probing the opponent's hand strength.
Background
CO (Cut Off) is the position to the right of the dealer, one of the more advantageous late positions in the game. River refers to the fifth community card. Rainbow means the flop consists of three cards of different suits, drastically reducing the possibility of completing a flush draw on the river.
Concept
When the pot is contested by multiple players on the flop and the flop is a rainbow texture, flush draws are almost nonexistent, so players' primary draws are straights or pairs. If the CO player did not bet or only called on the flop, and by the river there is no obvious straight or pair threat on the board, they may choose to make a small bet—a "probe bet." The purpose is to gain information at a low cost: if the opponent raises, they can fold; if the opponent calls, they likely hold a medium-strength hand or one slightly better; if the opponent folds, they take down the pot.
Usage Scenarios
- Typical situation: CO holds a medium pair or high cards, checks on the flop and also on the turn, and the river is a blank card with a rainbow board eliminating flush possibilities. In this case, CO bets about 1/3 of the pot, attempting to test whether the opponent has a made hand.
- Advantages: Low cost, clear information, and the ability to leverage positional advantage, especially in multi-way pots.
- Risks: If the opponent is aggressive, they might bluff-raise with weak hands; or if the opponent calls with marginal hands, it could lead to losses.
Notes
Probe bets should not be used too frequently, or they become exploitable by opponents. They are best used in situations where the opponent's range is weak, such as when the flop was checked through by multiple players and the river is a low card.
