CO Turn Single Raised Pot

CO Turn Single Raised Pot

Term: CO Turn Single Raised Pot In a pot that was only raised once preflop, the situation where a player in the cutoff faces an action or decision on the turn.

CO Turn Single Raised Pot

Position and Pot Type

CO (Cutoff) is the position to the right of the dealer, holding position advantage post-flop and seeing the actions of all players except the dealer. Single Raised Pot refers to a pot where there was only one raise pre-flop (typically one raise and some calls, or calls from the blinds), resulting in a smaller pot size and lower implied odds.

Turn Strategy

On the turn, the CO player should consider the following factors:

  • Opponent Range: The pre-flop raiser usually has a wide range, but after the turn the range may tighten or polarize based on board texture.
  • Board Texture: Coordinated boards (e.g., connected or flush draws) require more caution, while dry boards favor continuation betting.
  • Bet Sizing: Typical bets are 50-75% of the pot, depending on board wetness and opponent tendencies.

Common Action Lines

  1. Continuation Bet: If the CO was the pre-flop raiser and bet the flop, continuing on the turn represents a strong hand, especially if the board favors their range.
  2. Check-Raise: If the CO checks and the pre-flop raiser bets, the CO can raise with strong hands or draws to gain value or bluff.
  3. Check-Call: Call with medium-strength hands or draws to control pot size and retain bluffing potential.

Example Scenario

Player A in the CO raises with A♠K♥, and the big blind calls. Flop: K♣7♦2♠. A bets, BB calls. Turn: 5♥. The pot is about 6 BB. A can continue bet 4-5 BB, representing top pair top kicker. If the BB check-raises, A should consider whether to call or re-raise based on opponent tendencies.

Notes

  • Avoid over-bluffing in multiway pots, as calling ranges are wider.
  • Pay attention to the pre-flop raiser's range; if they have many draws, they may attack the turn with made hands or draws.
  • Position advantage is especially important in single raised pots; use the last action to gain information.
