Direct Odds

直接底池赔率

**Term: Direct Odds** Refers to the odds calculated solely based on the current pot size and the amount required to call, without considering future potential betting gains.

Context: Term article: Direct Pot Odds

Calculation Method

Direct [pot odds] are calculated by comparing the current pot size to the amount needed to call an opponent's bet or raise. The formula is:

  • Odds = Current Pot Size ÷ Call Amount
  • Or expressed as a ratio: Pot Size : Call Amount

Example: The pot is 100 chips, opponent bets 50, call amount is 50. Direct pot odds are 100:50 = 2:1.

Application Scenarios

Direct pot odds are mainly used to determine whether a call has positive [expected value]. Players need to compare the direct pot odds with the probability of completing their draw:

  • If the odds are higher than the draw probability (e.g., odds 4:1 and draw probability 20% or 4:1), calling is profitable in the long run.
  • If the odds are lower than the draw probability, folding is better.

Direct pot odds do not consider future bets ([implied odds]) or the opponent's possible [reverse implied odds]. Therefore, they are suitable for situations where there will be no further action after the opponent's bet, or when the decision is relatively simple.

Differences from Related Concepts

  • [Implied Odds]: Based on direct pot odds, additionally consider the betting profit that can be obtained on later streets after hitting the hand.
  • Reverse Implied Odds: Consider the risk of losing more chips even after hitting the hand.

Notes

Direct pot odds are a basic analytical tool. However, in actual play, decisions must be made by combining factors such as opponent range, position, and stack depth. Beginners should first master the calculation of direct pot odds, then gradually introduce advanced concepts like implied odds.
