Poker Term

翻牌圈3-Bet(Flop 3-Bet)

A re-raise to an opponent's raise on the flop, i.e., the third betting action flop 3-bet.

Concept

Flop 3-Bet refers to the action on the flop when one player makes a lead bet, another player raises, and then a third player (or the original raiser) chooses to re-raise. This term derives from the "3-Bet" concept pre-flop but is applied post-flop to describe a more aggressive round of betting.

Application Scenarios

  • Typical situation: Flop action proceeds as: Player A bets, Player B raises, then Player C or Player A makes a re-raise (i.e., Flop 3-Bet).
  • Purpose: Indicates a strong hand, a big draw, or an attempt to force opponents to fold in order to seize control of the pot.
  • Misconception: Post-flop "3-Bet" specifically refers to the third bet, distinguishing it from a regular raise (second bet).

Strategic Significance

  • Strength Signal: Flop 3-Bet often represents a very strong made hand (e.g., top pair top kicker, two pair or better) or a high-quality draw (e.g., open-ended straight draw plus flush draw).
  • Bluffing Potential: On specific board textures and when opponents have a high fold rate, it can also be used as a semi-bluff.
  • Position Relation: When in a favorable position (e.g., on the button), Flop 3-Bet is more powerful because it allows a free look at the turn.

Considerations

  • Overusing Flop 3-Bet may lead to counter-play by opponents; it must be combined with opponent tendencies and pot odds.
  • Impact varies across game formats (e.g., cash games, tournaments): In tournaments, ICM pressure must be considered.

Example

  • Board: K♠ 7♥ 3♦, Player A bets with K♣Q♣, Player B raises with A♠K♦, Player C 3-bets with 7♦7♣ (suggesting a set).
