单调翻牌圈三下注(Flop 3-Bet on Monotone Board)

On a flop that is three cards of the same suit, the action of a player re-raising i.e., three-betting an opponent's bet or raise.

Overview

Flop 3-Bet on Monotone Board refers to when the flop has three cards of the same suit (i.e., a monotone board), and a player chooses to re-raise (3-bet) after facing an opponent's bet or raise on the flop. This play is common in deep-stacked or fast online games, as it involves interactions between flush draws and made flushes, requiring careful range balancing.

Strategic Considerations

On monotone boards, the probability of flush draws is high, so a player's 3-bet range typically consists of:

  • Value hands: Made flushes (e.g., Ace-high flush), top pair with a flush draw, two pair, or sets (if the board is not paired). These hands extract value from opponent calls.
  • Bluff hands: Medium pairs with a flush draw (e.g., pocket pairs with a backdoor flush draw), flush draws plus straight draws (i.e., combo draws), or high cards with backdoor draws. Due to the blocking effect of monotone boards, the number of flush draw combos is reduced, so bluffs must be chosen carefully.

The 3-bet size is typically 3-4 times the original bet, or 70%-100% of the pot. Out of position (e.g., big blind vs. button), the size may be larger to reduce the opponent's implied odds for calling.

Example (Typical Scenario)

Assume the flop is K♠ 9♠ 3♠ (monotone spades), and the player is on the button with A♠ J♦. After the opponent checks pre-flop and the player bets, the opponent raises. At this point, the player chooses to 3-bet, representing either a made flush or a strong draw, forcing the opponent to fold non-spade top pairs.

Considerations

  • Avoid over-3-betting, especially in multi-way pots, as monotone boards are prone to cooler situations (flush over flush).
  • Consider the opponent's range: if the opponent bets frequently, you can increase bluff 3-bet frequency; if the opponent is tight-aggressive, use more value 3-bets.
  • Stack depth affects decisions: in shallow stacks, 3-bet jams are common; in deep stacks, pot control becomes important.
