单挑赏金赛策略(Heads-Up Bounty Strategy)

Heads-Up Bounty Strategy

In heads-up two-player bounty tournaments, a strategy system for adjusting play style based on the opponent's bounty amount.

Overview

Heads-up bounty strategy combines heads-up play with the special rules of bounty tournaments. In traditional bounty tournaments, eliminating a player earns you their bounty, and in heads-up, both players face a direct confrontation where the bounty amount becomes a critical decision factor.

Key Adjustments

  • Bounty value weighting: When an opponent has a high bounty (e.g., from accumulating multiple bounties later in the tournament), prioritize eliminating them from a value perspective, even potentially accepting slightly negative EV calls or raises to secure the bounty.
  • ICM and bounty interaction: In heads-up, ICM (Independent Chip Model) has less impact, but bounties still alter the marginal utility of chips. Typically, bounties act as additional prize money, pushing strategy toward aggression, especially when the opponent is cautious.
  • Preflop ranges: Against high-bounty opponents, you can widen your calling range, particularly when in position; but be cautious not to be exploited.

Typical Situations

  • Big blind defense: When defending from the big blind against a small blind raise, if the opponent's bounty is high, consider defending with a wider range, even re-raising with medium-strength hands to create elimination opportunities.
  • All-in decisions: With medium stack depth, if the opponent shoves, a player with a high bounty may be more inclined to call, but equity must still be evaluated.

Precautions

  • Avoid over-deviating from basic strategy solely to chase bounties, especially when the opponent is also aware of this dynamic.
  • The value of a bounty in heads-up is generally lower than in multi-table tournaments, as there is only one opportunity to claim it.
