Poker Term

HJ位翻前延迟彩虹面持续下注(HJ Preflop Delayed C-Bet Rainbow)

After the player in HJ position raises preflop, they check on a rainbow flop, then make a continuation bet on the turn.

Overview

This term combines three elements: position, delayed continuation bet, and flop texture. HJ (hijack) is typically a middle-late position, becoming the aggressor after a preflop raise. A rainbow flop means the three community cards are all different suits, reducing the likelihood of flush draws, so the flop generally favors the preflop raiser, but it can also miss the flop.

Purpose

The core objectives of a delayed continuation bet are:

  • Balance range: When the opponent checks the flop, the raiser can check to protect their checking range and avoid being exploited.
  • Induce bluffs: Checking may make the opponent think the raiser is weak, leading them to bet or bluff on the turn, allowing the raiser to raise.
  • Control pot size: Without a strong hand on the flop (e.g., unpaired overcards), checking avoids a raise, and betting the turn gives the opponent worse odds (since turn bets are larger).
  • Utilize flop texture: Rainbow boards reduce flush draws, so checking and then betting the turn when a high card or draw card appears can more effectively represent strength.

Execution Timing

Applicable when:

  • The flop is dry and moderately matches the raiser's range (e.g., K-7-2 rainbow).
  • The opponent has a wide calling range on the flop but is likely to fold on the turn.

Notes

  • Delayed continuation bets should be mixed with flop continuation bets to avoid pattern recognition.
  • If a dangerous card appears on the turn (e.g., completing a straight), bet cautiously or fold.
  • Do not use it too frequently, or it becomes an exploitable strategy.
