Poker Term

HJ河牌干燥面公开下注(HJ River Open Dry)

Refers to the action of a player in the Hijack position who is the first to bet on the river when the board is dry.

Term Background

HJ (Hijack) is the position in Texas Hold'em after the UTG (under the gun) and before the CO (cutoff). The River is the last betting round. "Dry" means the board lacks obvious drawing possibilities, e.g., a rainbow board with no straight or flush potential.

Strategic Significance

When the river board is dry, hand ranges are usually polarized: either strong hands (top pair or better) or air. HJ betting in this position typically represents a value bet (hoping to be called by worse hands) or a bluff (forcing opponents to fold medium-strength hands). Since the position is earlier than CO and BTN (button), there are still players behind who have not acted, so the risk of being raised must be considered.

Common Considerations

  • Value Bet: When holding a strong hand that connects well with the dry board (e.g., three of a kind, two pair), HJ can bet for value.
  • Bluff: If holding blockers or can represent a specific strong hand, a bluff can be attempted, but caution is needed because opponents on dry boards are more likely to make fold decisions.
  • Range Balancing: On dry boards, HJ needs to mix value bets and bluffs to avoid being exploited.

Example

Suppose the flop is K♠7♦2♣, turn 5♥, river 3♠. The board has no flush or straight possibilities, so it is dry. An HJ player holding K♥Q♣ can make a value bet on the river; if holding A♠8♠ (only high card), a bluff can be considered.
