Big Blind Continuation Bet Leak Refers to a strategic flaw where the Big Blind player's continuation bet on the flop—due to improper range selection, bet sizing, or frequency—is exploited by opponents.
CO Continuation Bet Leak (CO Continuation Bet Leak)
Overview
The CO (Big Blind) is the last to act preflop but is in the worst position postflop. A continuation bet (c-bet) is the preflop raiser's active bet on the flop. The CO continuation bet leak specifically refers to strategic weaknesses exposed when the big blind player, after defending their blind, makes a donk bet or check-raises and then continues betting on the flop.
Common Manifestations
- Overly wide range: The big blind player continuation bets with too many medium-strength hands (e.g., bottom pair, middle pair, draws), leaving them vulnerable to frequent bluff-raises from opponents with high fold equity.
- Improper bet sizing: The continuation bet size is disconnected from hand strength (e.g., small bets with strong hands, large bets with weak hands), easily spotted by observant opponents.
- Frequency imbalance: Continuation betting too frequently on specific flop textures (e.g., ace-high, connected boards), allowing opponents to execute precise counter-bluffs.
How It Can Be Exploited
Opponents can attack this leak by:
- Raising the big blind's continuation bet on dry boards (e.g., K-7-2 rainbow), forcing them to fold weak made hands.
- Calling lightly on wet boards (e.g., J-10-9 two-tone), using position to attack the upper end of the big blind's range on the turn or river.
- Tracking the big blind's continuation bet frequency across different flops and adjusting their calling range accordingly.
Improvement Suggestions
- Balance your continuation bet range: Maintain a reasonable ratio of value bets to bluffs (typically around 2:1 or 3:1).
- Adjust based on flop texture: Reduce continuation bet frequency on connected flops; increase it on dry boards.
- Leverage positional differences: Since the big blind is out of position postflop, prefer strategies like check-raising or slow-playing rather than continuation betting.
