枪口位偷盲范围(UTG Steal Range)

UTG Steal Range

In Texas Hold'em, the hand range used by a player in the UTG position to raise in an attempt to steal the blinds.

Definition

UTG Steal range refers to the range of hand combinations with which a player chooses to raise (usually a standard raise or min-raise) from the Under the Gun position (UTG, i.e., the first seat to the left of the big blind) in an attempt to steal the blinds. Since UTG is the first to act and there are still multiple players yet to act behind, this range is usually tighter than the steal range from later positions (such as the button or cutoff) and places more emphasis on the absolute strength and playability of hands.

Strategic Considerations

Generally speaking, the UTG steal range does not include marginal hands, because being called or re-raised will leave you in a disadvantageous position. Typical ranges include:

  • Big pairs (TT+), AK, AQ, and other strong hands;
  • Some medium pairs and high suited connectors (e.g., 99, 88, AQs, KQs), depending on stack depth and opponent tendencies.

In the late stages of a tournament or when short-stacked, the range can be appropriately loosened. However, the core principle is that UTG steals should prioritize hands that are not easily dominated, to avoid difficult post-flop play.
