枪口位持续下注防守(UTG c-bet defense)
Refers to the strategy adopted by other players after the UTG player makes a continuation bet on the flop, in order to protect their own range or contest the pot.
Overview
UTG c-bet defense refers to the defensive strategy against the UTG player's continuation bet (c-bet) on the flop. Since UTG acts first preflop, their opening range is usually tighter, and their c-bet frequency postflop is relatively high. The defender needs to decide whether to call, raise, or fold based on flop texture, their own hand range, opponent tendencies, and stack depth.
Key Strategy Points
- Flop Texture: On dry flops (e.g., rainbow with no connected cards), UTG's c-bet is more likely to represent a strong hand, so the defender should call with strong made hands or draws and fold weak hands. On wet flops (e.g., two-tone with straight draws), UTG may c-bet with more draws, so the defender can raise or call appropriately.
- Position Advantage: If the defender is in position (e.g., on the button), they can apply pressure on the turn. If in an early or middle position, they need to be more cautious to protect their range.
- Range Balance: The defender should mix strong hands, medium-strength hands, and draws to avoid being overly exploited by UTG. For example, on a K-9-3 rainbow flop, raise with top pair or better, and call with middle pair + flush draw.
- Stack Depth: With deep stacks, the defender can call or raise more frequently to try to profit over multiple streets. With short stacks, mainly shove or fold, as UTG's c-bet is often close to committing.
Common Mistakes
- Over-folding: UTG's c-bet frequency is high, but they don't always have a strong hand. Over-folding loses pot equity.
- Blind Raising: Raising without a plan may lead to being re-raised or 4-bet by UTG's strong hands, putting the defender in a passive spot.
- Ignoring Opponent Tendencies: If UTG is aggressive, the defender's range can be wider; if passive, tighten up.
Summary
UTG c-bet defense requires combining flop texture, your own range, and opponent characteristics to flexibly choose actions, minimizing losses and maximizing value.
