Light C-Bet Spot
Light C-Bet Spot
Light C-Bet Spot A situation on the flop where it is appropriate to continuation bet with a wider range or for thin value, typically based on flop texture, opponent range, or positional advantage.
Overview
The Light C-Bet Spot is a common concept in post-flop strategy, emphasizing making a continuation bet with non-strong hands (such as middle or low pairs, draws, or pure air) on specific flops where the opponent's fold equity is high. The key is to identify situations where the opponent's range is weak or the flop does not match their raising range.
Typical Characteristics
- Dry or low connectivity flop: such as rainbow boards, no straight or flush draws, reducing opponent's drawing possibilities.
- Narrow and weak opponent range: e.g., opponent defending from the big blind, or calling from the small blind, their range usually contains many weak hands.
- Position advantage: when in position (e.g., on the button), it's easier to execute a light C-Bet.
- Simple preflop action: e.g., single-raised pot, both ranges are relatively wide.
Strategy Application
Bet Sizing
- Usually a smaller size (about 1/3 pot) to reduce risk and force opponent to fold.
- If the flop is extremely dry, even 1/4 pot can be used.
Range Selection
- Value part: naturally bet strong hands top pair or better.
- Bluff part: hands with improvement potential such as backdoor draws, gutshot straight draws, double overcards, etc.
- Example: On a K-7-2 rainbow flop, holding A♠5♠ can light C-Bet because it's hard for the opponent to hit that flop.
Adjustment Factors
- Opponent tendency: if opponent folds too much, increase light C-Bet frequency; if opponent is too tight, reduce it.
- Flop texture: wet boards (e.g., two-tone, connected boards) are suitable for betting with made hands, light C-Bet should be more cautious.
Notes
Light C-Bet spots rely on preflop range reading. For example, when UTG raiser faces big blind defense on a flop of A-9-2 rainbow, the big blind range contains many non-pair hands, so a light C-Bet may be effective. But if the flop is 10-8-6 two-tone, the big blind range has more draws, making a light C-Bet riskier.
Avoid overusing in multi-way pots or 3-bet pots preflop, as opponent ranges are stronger.
