范围中间(Middle of Range)
Middle of Range
middle-of-range Hands in a player's range that fall between the strongest and weakest in strength.
Concept
Middle of Range is a term used in Texas Hold'em to describe the categorization of a player's hand range by strength. A complete range typically consists of three parts: Top of Range, Middle of Range, and Bottom of Range. Hands in the middle part of the range are neither absolute strong hands (such as ultra-strong made hands) nor absolute weak hands (such as trash hands with no draw), but rather medium-strength hands that have some showdown value or drawing potential.
Strategic Importance
In post-flop decision-making, hands in the middle of the range usually need to be handled carefully. They often have the following characteristics:
- Medium-strength made hands (e.g., top pair weak kicker, middle pair, bottom pair)
- Or good draws (e.g., open-ended straight draw, flush draw)
- But when facing aggressive betting, they are difficult to withstand large bets over multiple streets.
Players typically use middle-of-range hands to control the pot, or as a "hybrid" part between bluffs and value bets to balance their strategy. Skilled players deliberately make it hard for opponents to distinguish whether their middle-of-range hands are strong or weak, thereby gaining more information at showdown.
Related Techniques
- Range Confrontation: When you determine that an opponent has many middle-of-range hands, you can use medium-strength hands to make thin value bets.
- Protecting Your Range: Avoid folding all middle-of-range hands out of fear, otherwise your range becomes too polarized.
- Blocker Effect: When holding certain key cards (e.g., an Ace that blocks an opponent's top pair combos), you can play your middle-of-range hands more aggressively.
