Overview

MP 100bb Resteal is a common strategy in Texas Hold'em, primarily occurring when a player in middle position (MP) has a stack depth of approximately 100 big blinds (bb). The core of this strategy is: after an early position player (e.g., UTG or UTG+1) opens with a raise, the MP player uses their positional advantage (still able to act post-flop) and the opponent's potentially wide opening range to apply pressure by re-raising (3-bet), forcing the opponent to fold and winning the pot directly.

Applicable Scenarios

• Opponent's range is wide: When the early position player has a high opening frequency, especially against tight-aggressive opponents, the resteal has a higher success rate.
• Your hand type: Typically uses medium to strong hands (e.g., AJ+, 88+, suited connectors like T9s) to resteal, but the specific range depends on opponent tendencies.
• Stack depth: 100bb is standard depth; the resteal raise size is typically 3 to 4 times the original raise to avoid revealing hand strength.

Strategy Key Points

• Position advantage: Although MP is not the button, they still act after the early position player and can take the lead post-flop, making it easier to control the pot.

If UTG holds a marginal hand like KQo, they will likely fold, and MP wins the pot immediately. If UTG holds TT and 4-bet to 2200, MP can decide to fold or re-raise based on their range.
