MP 10bb 防御(MP 10bb Defense)
MP 10bb Defense
In No-Limit Texas Hold'em, when a player is in middle position MP with an effective stack of about 10 big blinds 10bb, the defensive actions taken against an opponent's raise typically include calling or shoving.
Position and Stack Depth
- Middle Position (MP): Located after the under the gun position (UTG) and before the cutoff (CO), typically the second or third position on a 6-max table. This position has post-flop positional advantage but acts earlier pre-flop, requiring cautious play.
- 10bb Stack Depth: Falls under the short stack category, common in tournaments during the middle stages or bubble. Players' actions are limited, with all-in or fold being the primary options; calling requires specific conditions.
Defense Strategy Key Points
- Range Adjustment: The MP 10bb defense range is typically tight, mainly including pairs (e.g., 66+), suited connectors (e.g., A5s, KQs), and some Ax. Against raisers from different positions (e.g., UTG or CO), the range should be further tightened or loosened.
- Action Selection:
- Call: Used only when pot odds are favorable and post-flop play is viable, e.g., facing a small raise with a hand that has deception (like small to medium pairs). After calling, if no strong hand is hit post-flop, folding is often required.
- All-in: A more common defense method, utilizing fold equity to win the pot. When the hand has sufficient pre-flop equity or the opponent's raising range is wide, all-in can force folds or create a pre-flop all-in showdown.
- ICM Considerations: In tournaments, ICM (Independent Chip Model) impacts decisions. Near the money or at payout jumps, reduce risk by tightening the defense range.
Typical Scenario
- Example: Player holds 77 in MP, UTG raises to 2.5bb, effective stack 10bb. Action folds to MP. After calling, the pot is about 6bb. Post-flop, if no set is hit, often check-fold is the only option. However, shoving all-in may force UTG to fold AK or AQ; even if called, there is still approximately 55% equity.
Notes
- Defense does not mean passivity: In short stack situations, proactive all-ins (rather than calls) often maximize expected value.
- Must consider opponent tendencies: If opponents raise frequently, the all-in range can be widened; if opponents are tight, folding should be the primary action.
