Poker Term

中间位置潮湿翻牌公开加注(MP Flop Open Wet)

On the flop, a strategic action where a player in middle position makes an open raise on a wet draw-rich board.

Term Meaning

MP (Middle Position) refers to the player in the middle position at a six- or nine-handed table, typically after the under-the-gun position and before the hijack. Flop Open Wet means open-raising on the flop with a wet board, i.e., a board texture containing multiple drawing possibilities such as flush draws, straight draws, etc.

Key Strategy Points

  • Range Advantage: Middle position has a wider preflop range and can choose to raise or check on different flops. On wet boards, an MP player can leverage positional advantage by raising to gain information or protect made hands.
  • Bluffing and Value: On wet boards, an MP raise can represent made hands (e.g., top pair or better) or strong draws, forcing opponents to fold or call. Typical example: flop 9♠8♠6♥, MP holding A♠4♠ can raise as a semi-bluff.
  • Range Construction: MP needs to balance the raising range, avoiding being too heavy on strong hands or bluffs. On wet boards, it is recommended to mix strong made hands, strong draws, and a small number of pure bluffs.

Cautions

  • Responding to Re-raises: If re-raised by an opponent, MP must decide whether to continue based on hand strength, pot odds, and playability on later streets.
  • Positional Disadvantage: Compared to the button, MP may still be at a positional disadvantage postflop (e.g., when the small blind re-raises), so decisions should be made carefully.
  • Board Dynamics: This term does not apply to dry boards (e.g., K♠7♦2♣); instead, MP Flop Open Dry should be used.

Common Misconceptions

This term does not describe a fixed play but a specific situation. Actual decisions must consider factors such as opponent type, stack depth, etc.
