Poker Term

中间位置河牌配对持续下注(MP River C-Bet Paired)

指在河牌圈,中间位置玩家在公共牌出现对子时进行的持续下注行为。

Term Composition

  • MP: Middle Position, typically UTG+1 or UTG+2 in a 9-handed table, with a wider preflop raising range.
  • River C-Bet: A continuation bet on the river. Traditional C-bets often occur on the flop, but here it refers to an aggressive bet on the river continuing the preflop raise.
  • Paired: The community cards contain a pair (e.g., board Q♠7♣7♥), which can change hand strength distribution.

Strategic Implications

A river C-bet from MP usually indicates a strong made hand, because after MP raises preflop and acts on the flop and turn, the bluff value of a river bet is relatively low. When the board is paired, the following scenarios may occur:

  • Enhances one's own hand strength: e.g., holding KK on a board with a pair of 7s, still an overpair.
  • Blocks opponent's draws: Opponent may have been drawing to a straight or flush, the pair makes those draws miss.
  • Conceals full house risk: Opponent could have turned a pair into a full house, so betting requires caution.

Application Scenarios

Typical scenario: Preflop MP raises, heads-up. Flop Q♠7♣2♦, MP bets and is called. Turn J♥, MP checks. River 7♥ pairs the board, MP bets. At this point, MP can represent Qx (top pair) or better, or possibly a bluff (though with low bluff frequency). Opponent may fold if holding a weak pair.

Notes

  • Frequency control: Betting too frequently on paired boards can lead to being raised by medium-strength hands.
  • Position advantage: Although MP is not the button on the river, betting allows observing opponent's reaction.
  • Hand combinations: Balance value and bluffs; for example, bluffing with A-high on a paired board because it blocks opponent's top pair.
