中间位河牌对子面过牌-弃牌(MP River Check-Fold Paired)

MP River Check-Fold Paired

In middle position, when the river pairs the board, the player chooses to check first, then folds facing an opponent's bet.

Position and Scenario

MP (Middle Position) is a general term for the middle positions in six-handed or nine-handed tables, usually after the under the gun position. Preflop, MP's range is wide, but by the river, the range naturally tightens.

Significance of a Paired River

When the river pairs the board (Paired), it means the board now has two pair or trips. This type of board makes it likely that opponents have strong hands like full houses, trips, or two pair, thus disadvantaging ranges that missed. An MP player checking on a paired river typically indicates that their hand strength is limited and cannot withstand a bet.

Applicability of Check-Fold

  • Weak hand strength: If the player only holds a weak pair or a missed draw on the river, a paired board reduces their showdown value, so check-fold avoids additional losses.
  • Range protection: Sometimes strong hands are slow-played here, but in general, MP's Check-Fold is a way to give up weak range and maintain balance.
  • Opponent tendencies: If opponents bet frequently on such boards, Check-Fold can avoid being overly bluffed, but still requires adjustment based on opponent's fold frequency.

Notes

Not every paired river requires a Check-Fold. For example, if the player holds top pair or better, or if the board has a possible straight flush, consider check-call or re-raise. This term specifically refers to the action of checking and then folding on a paired board, a passive play.
