Poker Term

中位河牌圈单调牌面隔离加注(MP River Isolation Raise Monotone)

A raise made from middle position on a monotone river board to increase win rate or isolate a specific opponent.

Term Decomposition

  • MP: Middle Position, referring to a player in middle position pre-flop.
  • River: The river betting round after the final community card is dealt.
  • Isolation Raise: A raise intended to force other players to fold, leaving only one opponent, thereby increasing win rate when in position or holding a strong hand.
  • Monotone: A board where all community cards are of the same suit (e.g., all hearts).

Strategy Meaning

On a monotone board, flush draws or made flushes may reduce the opponent’s calling range. A middle position player making an isolation raise on the river typically holds a made flush or a flush draw blocker, aiming to thin the multi-way pot, reduce the probability of opponents holding flushes, and put the remaining opponent under compound pressure.

Usage Scenario (Example)

Suppose the flop is A♠ K♠ 5♠, turn 7♠, river 2♠, making the board all spades. If the middle position player holds Q♠ (top pair with a flush blocker), they can isolation-raise a river bet, forcing players without a flush to fold, leaving only those possibly holding a smaller flush, thus controlling the pot and extracting value.

Notes

  • An isolation raise should consider opponent aggression, pot odds, and your own hand strength.
  • On a monotone board, especially the river, an opponent may hold the nut flush, so assess the risk before raising.
  • This term is commonly used in advanced strategy discussions and is rarely mentioned in isolation in practice.
