Poker Term

中位河牌干燥偷池(MP River Steal Dry)

In middle position, on the river facing a dry board, the strategy of betting to force opponents to fold and win the pot.

Applicable Scenarios

This strategy often occurs in multi-way or heads-up pots after a preflop raise, with a dry board structure (e.g., no straight or flush draws possible, such as K-7-2 rainbow). A player in middle position (MP) on the river can use a bet to contest the pot if the opponent's range lacks strong hands or bluff-catchers.

Implementation Points

  • Range Composition: Typically includes air (e.g., unimproved hands) or very weak made hands (e.g., bottom pair), but may mix in a few value hands (e.g., top pair with a weak kicker) for balance.
  • Bet Sizing: Usually 50%-70% of the pot. A larger size may expose the bluff, while a smaller size may fail to induce folds.
  • Opponent Analysis: More effective against tight-passive players or those with high postflop fold equity; use caution against loose calling stations.

Risks & Adjustments

  • Re-steal Risk: Opponents may hold nutted hands or slow-play, leading to a raise that costs more.
  • Frequency Control: Overuse reduces credibility; adjust based on previous dynamics with the opponent.
  • Example: Preflop raiser MP holds A♠Q♣, flop K♥7♦2♣, turn 3♠, river 5♦. If the opponent checks through, MP can bet representing a set or top pair with a strong kicker, forcing the opponent to fold middle pair or bottom pair.

Notes

This strategy relies on an accurate read of the opponent's fold equity and should not be used blindly.
