翻牌前隔离加注(Preflop Isolation Raise)
A raise made preflop against multiple players who have limped into the pot, aimed at forcing other players to fold and creating a heads-up situation with one specific opponent.
Overview
Preflop Isolation Raise refers to raising after one or more players have limped in front, with the goal of causing the other limpers to fold, thereby entering a heads-up pot against the initial limper or a weaker opponent. This raise is typically made with strong hands or exploitable holdings, leveraging position and hand strength to increase win rate.
Purpose & Scenarios
- Narrow Opponent Range: Limpers often have weak or passive hands; raising forces speculative hands (e.g., small pairs, suited connectors) to fold, leaving opponents who may hold medium-strength hands (e.g., big pairs, AT+).
- Gain Position Advantage: If the raiser is on the button or cutoff, an isolation raise allows them to be in position postflop, controlling the pot.
- Increase Fold Equity: Some limpers frequently fold to raises, allowing the raiser to win the pot (dead money) immediately.
- Target Specific Opponents: If a later position player knows a particular limper is exploitable postflop, they can isolate that opponent for heads-up play.
Strategy Points
- Raise Size: Typically a standard raise (e.g., 3BB + 1BB per limper) or slightly larger to discourage multiple callers.
- Hand Selection: Typical isolation raise hands include strong pairs (TT+), strong Ax (AK, AQ), and some exploitable hands (e.g., A8s, KQo), depending on the opponent.
- Avoid Over-Isolation: If the limper is loose-aggressive or deep-stacked, an isolation raise may be re-raised; in such cases, strong hands should be preferred.
- Difference from Standard Raise: A standard raise usually targets the blinds or players who haven't entered the pot; an isolation raise specifically targets limpers and often requires a larger raise size.
Example
Assume blinds 1/2, CO (cutoff) limps, and the button raises to 8 with AJs. The button's raise is an isolation raise, aiming to force later players to fold and play heads-up against the CO.
