Poker Term

翻牌前湿润牌面隔离加注(Preflop Isolation Raise on Wet Board)

The concept of a preflop isolation raise in the of a wet board a post-flop characteristic is rarely used in actual poker terminology due to the temporal contradiction.

Term Composition

This term consists of two parts:

  • Preflop Isolation Raise: A raise made before the flop when multiple players have limped, intended to force others to fold and isolate one (usually weaker) player, gaining a heads-up advantage.
  • Wet Board: A board texture on the flop or turn that contains multiple possible flush draws or straight draws (e.g., 6♠7♠8♥), making it highly likely that made hands or draws are present, typically occurring after the flop.

Logical Contradiction

"Preflop Isolation Raise on Wet Board" is uncommon in standard poker terminology because a "wet board" describes the state of the board after the flop, while an "isolation raise" is an action before the flop. The two cannot occur simultaneously in a temporal sense. The term may originate from a misuse or conflation of concepts—for example, referring to isolating a specific player on a wet board after the flop (which would be correctly termed a "Postflop Isolation Bet"), but the English phrasing does not make that distinction clear.

Rare Usage

A small number of players might use this term to describe the following scenario: when making a preflop isolation raise, the player anticipates that the flop is likely to produce a wet board and adjusts their raising strategy accordingly. However, such usage lacks industry consensus and is not adopted in most poker resources.

Note

In poker study and discussion, it is advisable to avoid combining these terms. Instead, use standard expressions such as "preflop isolation raise" and "postflop wet board" separately to prevent confusion.
