Probe Bet from CO

Probe Bet from CO

Term: 探注(来自关煞位)(Probe Bet from CO) A probe bet from the cutoff CO player on the turn to test opponents' hand strength, typically occurring after both players have checked on the flop.

Overview

A Probe Bet typically refers to a bet made by a player in an out-of-position (such as the blinds) on the turn after calling on the flop, leading out to test the opponent's hand strength. A "Probe Bet from CO" specifically refers to such a bet initiated from the Cutoff (CO) position. Since the CO is often the pre-flop raiser and holds a relatively favorable post-flop position, a classic probe bet is uncommon from this spot; however, if the CO checks the flop and then suddenly bets on the turn, it can still be considered a probing bet, usually aimed at gaining information or forcing a fold.

Applicable Scenarios

  • After the CO checks the flop, the opponent (e.g., the button or a blind) also checks, then the CO leads out on the turn.
  • At this point, the CO's hand strength may be weak or medium, and they hope to learn whether the opponent holds a strong hand at a low cost.

Strategic Considerations

  • If the opponent calls or raises on the turn, the CO can gather information and adjust subsequent actions.
  • If the opponent folds, the CO successfully steals the pot.
  • Note: A probe bet from the CO may be interpreted as a delayed continuation bet (Delayed C-bet) rather than a pure probe bet.

Precautions

  • Due to the special nature of the CO position, such bets should be used cautiously to avoid being exploited by experienced opponents who might re-raise.
  • The probe bet is an advanced strategy; it is recommended to selectively apply it after understanding opponent tendencies.
