湿润牌面河底漂浮(River Float on Wet Board)
In the river, facing a wet board, calling with a weak or marginal hand, expecting the opponent to hold an unfinished draw to win the pot.
Overview
"River Float on Wet Board" refers to calling an opponent's bet on the river when the board texture is wet (i.e., multiple straight or flush draw possibilities) with a hand that would otherwise not win at showdown. This strategy is essentially a "Hero Call," but it emphasizes that the opponent should be bluffing at a high frequency and that their range contains many uncompleted draws.
Principle
A wet board (e.g., J-T-9 two-tone) causes many draws to miss on the river. If an opponent bet aggressively on the flop or turn but then bets small or overly large on the river, it may indicate they have an uncompleted draw and are attempting to bluff. By calling with weak pairs or bottom pair, the player can beat such pure bluffs.
Applicable Conditions
- The opponent's range contains many draw combinations, and the river bet sizing suggests a bluffing intent.
- Your own hand is weak but can beat most draws (e.g., bottom pair, small pocket pairs).
- Pot odds are favorable, meaning the calling cost is less than the expected win rate.
Risks
- The opponent may make a thin value bet with a value hand, causing the player to lose more chips.
- The opponent may bet with top pair or better on a wet board, and the player loses by calling.
Notes
- This strategy relies on accurate interpretation of the opponent's range and tendencies, and is not suitable for beginners.
- In actual play, "floating" on the river is different from a flop/turn float, as there are no further betting rounds remaining. Therefore, it is closer to a "hero call" rather than a "bluff."
