SB 75bb Defense

SB 75bb Defense

SB 75bb Defense Refers to the defensive strategies such as calling, re-raising, etc. taken in response to an opponent's raise when in the small blind SB with an effective stack depth of approximately 75 big blinds bb.

Overview

In Texas Hold'em, the Small Blind (SB) is one of the worst positions because it is always out of position postflop. When the effective stack depth is 75bb (medium-deep stacks), the defense strategy needs to balance pot odds, implied odds, and positional disadvantage.

Defense Principles

  • Pot odds: When the small blind calls a standard raise (e.g., 3bb), it needs to pay 2.5bb (assuming the big blind is 1bb). The pot already has 0.5+1+3=4.5bb, so the pot odds are about 2.5:4.5, or about 35.7%. Thus, the hand's equity needs to be at least this, but considering the positional disadvantage, a higher equity is actually required.
  • Implied odds: With 75bb stack depth, implied odds are higher, so the calling range can be appropriately widened, especially for hands that can make strong hands such as suited connectors, small pairs, etc.
  • Re-raise: Strong hands (e.g., TT+, AQ+) can be used for 3-betting, mixed with some bluffs (e.g., Axs, suited connectors) to balance the range.

Differences from Shallow Stacks

With shallow stacks (e.g., 20bb), the small blind tends to shove or fold because deeper stacks allow more postflop maneuverability. 75bb allows more postflop play, but the positional disadvantage remains, so the defense range should be tighter than that of the Button (BTN).

Typical Range (Example)

Note: The above is only a general example; actual adjustments should be made based on the opponent's style and Game Theory Optimal (GTO) strategy.
