Strategic Principle

The core of this tactic leverages the nature of a dry river board: since there are no obvious flush or straight draws, the opponent's hand range is often concentrated on made hands or complete misses. At this point, if the small blind has checked or called on the flop and turn, then suddenly makes a large raise on the river, it can put immense pressure on the opponent, forcing them to fold weak made hands (e.g., top pair weak kicker, middle pair, etc.) or bluffs that were checked behind.

Conditions for Application

• The opponent is cautious and capable of folding.
• The board is dry, e.g., K♥7♦2♣, A♠9♠ (no flush draw and no connected cards), etc.
