UTG+1 Squeeze Pot Turn Strategy

UTG+1 Squeeze Pot Turn Strategy

UTG+1 Squeeze Pot Turn Strategy Refers to the strategy where a player, after making a squeeze raise pre-flop from the UTG+1 position, adjusts their betting and folding decisions on the turn based on range, board structure, and opponent behavior.

Overview

After squeezing from the UTG+1 position, the turn strategy must account for range polarization, pot size, and opponent reactions. A squeeze typically involves making a large 3-bet with a wide range after an initial raise and multiple callers, aiming to collect dead money and leverage position. On the turn, the squeezer's range usually consists of strong value hands and bluffs, with the core strategy balancing value bets and bluffs while avoiding being re-bluffed by opponents.

Key Principles

  • Bet Frequency and Sizing: Maintain aggression on the turn with a bet frequency of approximately 60%-70%. Bet sizing typically ranges from 60% to 80% of the pot to maximize value and apply pressure.
  • Range Splitting: Continuation bet with value hands (e.g., top pair or better); mix checking or betting with medium-strength hands (e.g., middle pair, draws); continue bluffing with pure bluffs (e.g., air, backdoor draws) on specific flop structures (e.g., connected or suited boards).
  • Opponent Tendencies: Reduce bluffs against calling stations; increase bluffs against tight-aggressive players. Note opponent actions on the flop: if the opponent check-calls, you may reduce frequency on the turn; if the opponent check-raises, tighten your range.

Example (Typical Scenario)

Pre-flop: UTG+1 squeezes to 12 BB, with two callers. Flop: A♠K♦7♣. UTG+1 bets 15 BB, both call. Turn: 5♥. UTG+1 should continue betting around 30-35 BB, with a range including: AK, AQ (value), and some flush draws or backdoor straight draws (e.g., QJ, JT) as bluffs. If the turn completes a significant straight draw (e.g., T♠J♠7♦5♣), reduce bluffs and consider checking for pot control.

Notes

The squeeze turn strategy requires dynamic adjustment: if the turn improves likely opponent draws, proceed with caution; if the turn is a blank, maintain aggression. Avoid over-bluffing in multi-way pots, as at least one opponent may hold a strong hand.
