UTG+1 Turn 3-Bet Pot

UTG+1 Turn 3-Bet Pot

UTG+1 Turn 3-Bet Pot Refers to a pot where a player in the UTG+1 position is involved, and after a preflop 3-bet, the pot reaches the turn.

Position and Background

UTG+1 (Under the Gun +1) is the position after the under-the-gun position, belonging to early position. A 3-bet Pot refers to a pot where at least one raise and one re-raise occurred pre-flop, usually indicating a strong range.

Turn Strategy

In a UTG+1 Turn 3-Bet Pot, the player in UTG+1 is typically the one who called the 3-bet or made a 4-bet pre-flop. By the turn, the pot is large, but the player is at a positional disadvantage (if UTG+1 is the pre-flop caller, they may be out of position post-flop).

  • Range Analysis: UTG+1 calling a 3-bet from early position typically has a tight range, including strong hands (e.g., TT+, AQ+) or some hands suited for playing against a 3-bet (e.g., small to medium pairs, suited connectors).
  • Betting Decisions: As the pre-flop aggressor (the 3-bettor) usually has a range advantage and can continue betting on the turn. UTG+1, as the defender, needs to decide whether to call or raise based on the board structure.
  • Common Scenarios: If UTG+1 already called the flop, and the turn brings a made hand or changes the drawing possibilities, the player must assess the opponent's aggression level and their own hand equity.

Notes

  • The positional disadvantage makes it harder for UTG+1 to realize hand value on the turn, especially when facing a continuation bet.
  • This scenario requires high range balance; overfolding or over-calling can both be exploited.
  • Typical example: UTG+1 holds AK, called a pre-flop 3-bet, bet the flop and was called, then missed the turn—must consider whether to fold.
