A [wet board] generally refers to a flop with high connectivity (e.g., 8♥7♥6♠ or J♠T♠9♣) or many cards of the same suit (e.g., A♥K♥2♥), making it easy to form straight or flush draws, or even completed hands. On such boards, players' hands can become very strong or very weak after the flop.

UTG Position Characteristics

UTG (Under the Gun) is the first player to act preflop and also acts early postflop. Due to positional disadvantage, the UTG player's preflop range is usually tight, mainly consisting of big pairs (AA, KK, QQ), high cards (AK, AQ), and some suited connectors (e.g., T9s, JTs).

Strategic Considerations

On a wet board, UTG players should be more cautious when deciding to continuation bet (C-Bet).

• Bet strong made hands: If holding top pair or better (e.g., top pair with a draw, two pair, trips), bet for value and protection to avoid giving free cards to gutshots.
• Check weak and medium hands: With medium pairs (e.g., JJ on 8♥7♥6♠) or high cards (AK on J♠T♠9♣ without a draw), checking is often preferable, as opponents' calling ranges contain many draws, and they may raise as a bluff.
• Mix draws: Suited connectors in UTG's range (e.g., T9s on 8♥7♥6♠) hit strong draws. Mix betting with check-raising to balance your range.

On a wet board, UTG's checking range is vulnerable to exploitation, so it's necessary to protect strong made hands in the checking range (e.g., check-raise). Also, consider pot control: avoid building large pots out of position, especially when the board texture allows opponents to overtake you.

Typical Play

A common strategy: on a wet board, bet about 40%-60% of the time, with a larger bet size (e.g., 66%-75% of the pot) to force opponents to fold weak draws. For the [check] range, retain some strong hands to check-raise, preventing opponents from frequently seeing free cards with draws.
