Poker Term

枪口位翻牌前跟注-彩虹面过牌跟注(UTG Preflop Check-Call Rainbow)

A descriptive strategy where a player calls Call preflop from under the gun UTG, then employs a check-call line on the flop when the board is rainbow three cards of different suits.

Term Background

This term is not a standard poker term but a composite description used among players to refer to a specific scenario. UTG (Under the Gun) is the first position to act preflop, facing the greatest positional disadvantage. Rainbow refers to a flop where the three community cards are all of different suits, meaning a flush draw is unlikely.

Strategy Rationale

Calling (rather than raising) preflop from UTG is typically done to control the pot and disguise hand strength, especially when holding medium-strength hands (e.g., AJo, KQo) or weak suited connectors. When the flop comes rainbow, the drawing structure is simple, reducing the need for aggression. The purpose of check-calling is:

  • To avoid getting into a difficult spot after being raised
  • To preserve showdown potential despite the positional disadvantage
  • To induce an opponent to bet, then call to gain information

Notes

  • This strategy should not be used continuously, as it can be exploited by opponents
  • On a rainbow flop with low drawing potential, check-calling is more conducive to pot control
  • If the opponent shows weakness, consider leading out on the turn

Applicable Scenarios

  • After calling preflop, the flop is dry with few drawing possibilities (e.g., K72 rainbow)
  • Opponent is highly aggressive; calling minimizes losses
  • The hand has showdown value and you do not want to build a large pot
