枪口位河牌湿润面下注-弃牌(UTG River Bet-Fold Wet)
UTG River Bet-Fold Wet
A play where a player who entered from under the gun UTG preflop, on a wet river board, bets first, and folds if faced with a raise from an opponent.
Background
UTG (Under the Gun) is the first position to act preflop and represents a relatively strong range. When a UTG player enters the pot preflop and reaches the river, and the board is wet (i.e., multiple draws possible, such as straight or flush draws), if the player has not made a strong hand but believes their hand has some showdown value or can be used as a bluff, they may choose to bet.
Logic of the Play
- Purpose of the bet: Value bet (to extract value from worse hands) or bluff (to force opponents to fold). Since the board is wet, opponents may hold missed draws, and a bet can make them fold.
- Reason for folding: When facing a raise, the opponent usually holds a strong hand (e.g., a made straight or flush), and the player's hand is not strong enough to call or re-raise. Therefore, folding is chosen to avoid losses.
Applicable Situations
- The player holds a medium-strength hand, such as top pair with a weak kicker or a medium overpair.
- The opponent's range may contain many draws that missed on the river, so a raise from the opponent represents extremely strong hand strength.
- Common in online cash games or deep-stacked tournaments; caution is needed when out of position.
Risk Note
This play can be exploited by opponents: if they know the player will bet on a wet river and then fold to a raise, they may use a bluff-raise to force a fold. Therefore, balance is necessary; sometimes calling or re-raising is also required.
