枪口位河牌同花面持续下注(UTG River C-Bet Monotone)

Refers to a continuation bet made by a player after they raised first from UTG, on the river when the board is monotone all one suit.

Term Definition

UTG River C-Bet Monotone describes the action of a player who raised from UTG preflop, and on a board where the flop, turn, and river are all the same suit (i.e., a monotone board), makes another bet (C-Bet) on the river. This scenario typically occurs in pots with three or more players, and there may have been bets or checks on the flop and turn.

Strategic Points

Position and Range Advantage

UTG's preflop raising range is usually strong, containing high pairs, suited connectors, etc. On a monotone board, holding a card of the suit (especially an Ace-high flush draw) has strong drawing value. When betting on the river, the player may be representing that they have completed a flush. If the board has a single-card flush (e.g., flop is three of a suit, turn and river do not change the suit), the river C-Bet tends to be polarized: either a made flush or a bluff.

Opponent's Range

Since UTG showed strength preflop, opponents on a monotone board may hold flush draws or medium pairs. On the river, if opponents do not have a flush, they often find it difficult to call a large bet. Therefore, UTG's river continuation bet can effectively force opponents to fold medium-strength hands.

Bet Sizing

Typically a large bet is chosen (about 2/3 pot or larger) to maximize value and apply pressure. On monotone boards, made flushes are relatively rare, so bluff frequency must be controlled to avoid being exploited.

Typical Example

Assume UTG raises preflop, flop is ♠J♠9♠4 (monotone), turn ♠2, river ♠K. UTG holds A♠Q♣ and bets 75% pot on the river. This bet represents a made flush (e.g., A♠X♠) and can also bluff out smaller flushes or pairs held by opponents.

Notes

  • If the river pairs the board (e.g., the board shows a straight flush or full house), the effectiveness of the bet decreases.
  • In short-handed games (e.g., heads-up), UTG's positional disadvantage is offset, so river C-Bets need to be more cautious.
